Mehmet Nalbantoglu, Ekol Logistics'
new CEO. Nalbantoglu expressed his new objective at EKOL as
follows:
"We will make EKOL the world's leading logistics company
in 2005, by adding the 4th dimension to logistics."
Mehmet Nalbantoglu, who is well known by the |
informatics sector, has joined EKOL Logistics family operating
in the logistics sector for almost 12 years now.
Nalbantoglu, who'd been the Chief Executive Officer of Compaq Turkey
for long years, expressed his objectives as follows at the press
conference he organised regarding his new assignment: "As the
CEO of EKOL, operating in the logistics sector for approximately
11 years now, I would like to say that we aim to attain the 4th
dimension in logistics by integrating my experience in the IT sector
into logistics sector.
EKOL Logistics' CEO Nalbantoglu, who pointed out that the old concepts
of transportation, interurban warehouses, and factory warehouses
of 20 years ago, had then been replaced by "distribution"
concept in the market, reminded that with the effective using of
PC's in mid 1980's, "distribution" left its place to "logistics",
which brings a solution for all these infrastructure services with
an effective and efficiency focused approach.
Nalbantoglu pointed out that the need for more effective sharing
of information between each and every parties involved in the logistics
process, together with the need for an integrated process management
brought about by the evolution of information technologies, introduced
the "Supply Chain Management" concept to the sector in
mid 1990's; and he continued:
"Supply Chain has created a requirement for the world's leading
manufacturers to conduct a more integrated product flow management.
The objectives of these companies was then to convert services like
warehouse management, into more effective and financially more productive
operations with the use of outsourcing. Consequently, we started
to observe the existence of 3PL (3rd Party Logistics) companies
in the market in the '90s. At this point, we see that the target
of manufacturing companies is to reduce transportation and distribution
costs and avoid investments in these areas for a more effective
use of their own resources."
Nalbantoglu, who stated that the rules of the game were changed
again in 2000's, expressed that this was a period when it appeared
a need for an "Integrated Customer Relationship Management"
(ICRM) that would integrate manufacturing companies' processes with
3PL logistics companies, as the properly handling of customers had
become the core of all business processes of the period.
Nalbantoglu expressed that the new concepts introduced by Management
Consultancy firms will be followed closely in the forthcoming period
due to the fact, that cost and flexibility advantages provided by
3PL companies remain somewhat insufficient in this new world, and
that new horizons required by ICRM need to be properly addressed
and the gap to be filled. He further emphasised that the vision
of a System Integrator in Supply Chain Management, introduced by
consultancy companies like Andersen Consulting in order to contribute
to the shaping of the new period, is one of the initial examples
of this process.
Nalbantoglu said that in this new approach named 4 PL, consultancy
services provided by Software and Solution companies other than
3PL companies might altogether be viewed as the initial indicators
of new formations in ICRM; and he continued:
"In this new period initiated by EKOL, our actual target is,
beyond the identity of being the System Integrator, to become a
company to adopt and manage "the 4th Dimension in Logistics",
in the best possible way, by offering all the activities included
in this whole process as an integrated service to institutions."
