Certificate Of Acknowledgment From Euro Tunnel To Environment-Friendly Ekol

Euro Tunnel, which serves through an environment-friendly transport line with an optimum cost by providing rail journeys between Britain and France, presented a certificate of acknowledgment to Ekol, which achieved a CO2 saving of 236 tons in 2010 using this transport model which protects the environment. With this practice, Ekol saved 160,620 trees as of February 2011.

Using intermodal transport to carry cargoes from one place to another in the most efficient and timely manner, at a low cost and in an environment-friendly way, Ekol covers the distance between the Italian port of Trieste and Germany’s Mannheim Busbahnhof without using the road through its block train project, which it developed in 2008. Ekol, which through this practice saves 1,600 litres of fuel per vehicle in each journey in the world of our day where resources are being rapidly depleted, saved a total of 160,620 trees, that is, 420 hectares of forest land, through the block train journeys it carried out between October 2008 and February 2011. With the 500 journeys it is planning to carry out in 2011, Ekol Logistics will have used a total of 80,000 km less roads, that is, avoided unnecessarily going round the earth twice. The 500 journeys to be carried out means that 1,333,573,102 megajoules of energy, 88,320 tons of CO2, 25,600,000 litres of fuel, 63,550 kg of HC and 413,784 kg of Nox will be saved.

Preferring intermodal transport for the reasons of fighting the greenhouse effect, less emissions of pollutants, reduced noise pollution, less CO2 footprints, and energy savings, and having developed the block train project for a greener future, Ekol works for its transport operations between Britain and France together with Euro Tunnel, which provides a strong environmental support through its railway network and which aims to reduce carbon emissions with its special train consisting of 15 wagons each carrying 32 trailers with their tractor units.

Concerning the certificate of acknowledgment, in which Euro Tunnel states that it is proud to work with Ekol,  Ekol General Manager Umur Özkal said:

In this period, when we put emphasis on environment-friendly modes of transport, we are very pleased that such an important source as Euro Tunnel has presented us with a certificate of acknowledgment. In the period ahead, we will again concentrate on these modes of transport and seek to increase the amounts of saving we achieve.
