On 7th December , during the 6th edition of the Nuit du Shortsea Shipping et de l’intermodalité Gala, Ekol and VIIA were awarded in the Multimodal Operator category.
3 months ago Ekol and VIIA announced the start of a new service based on one shuttle connection per week from the port of Sète to Noisy-le-Sec in the Paris area. The train departs from Sète on Wednesday morning and arrives in Paris on Thursday at 7 am. The return trip starts on Wednesday with the train’s departure from Paris at 8 pm and arrival in Sète on Thursday at 12 am. The capacity and frequency of the rail service will continue to increase in 2017 as Ekol will add a second vessel to the sea connection Izmir – Sète.
The connection between Sete and Paris is key for us as thanks to it we can better connect Turkey or Iran with Europe and Maghreb with the Paris region. We are very happy and proud to receive this award. It shows that the way we develop the intermodal solution in Ekol is a proper one. We plan to implement more train connections in Europe in the next few months.
said Alaa Jennane, Engineering Business Development Director in Ekol.
The winners are chosen by the Grand Jury composed of professionals in the sector and the competition was tough this year. The goal of these awards is to promote initiatives in the area of shortsea and intermodal transportations as well the environmental friendly solutions.
We are very glad to receive this trophy. Here at VIIA, as we focus on trailers business, we are convinced that it is a key issue in the transport sector to develop intermodal connections between railways and ro-ro ports. The connection between the port of Sète and Paris is the first success which will certainly lead to other similar initiatives in the future.
